Native Pebble Watch Notification no longer required
« on: January 12, 2016, 12:20:17 pm »
Not really a bug as such but it seems like AquaMail sends a native Pebble watch notification with sender and subject line but not the actual email text content.

Since the Pebble watch app is also forwarding the normal Android (Wear?) notifications including the email text content this causes the Pebble watch to show two notifications for each new incoming email in AquaMail, one with and one without the email text content.

It would be great if the native Pebble watch notifications in AquaMail could be turned off (if there is such a setting I can't find it) or probably better removed altogether since this functionality it is no longer required for notifications to reach the Pebble watch.

The Nine and FastMail apps caused similar behavior with double notifications but they had a setting for turning off native Pebble Watch notifications to resolve the problem.

Great if this could be sorted and thanks for the best Android IMAP app.

AquaMail does not talk to Pebble watches.

It posts standard Android status bar notifications, and also -- if it finds Google's Android Wear app or Pebble's app (com.getpebble.android) -- then those notifications are "enriched" for Android Wear.

Please report the issue to Pebble.

Thanks, I think we are talking about the same thing. If AquaMail notifications are turned off in the Pebble App the notification with sender and subject line is still coming through (the native notification) but not the second one including the email text content (standard Android status bar notification).

Could you please make it possible to turn off any Pebble specific "enrichment".

There is no "Pebble specific enhancement" in AquaMail.

There is Android Wear enhancement, and it's enabled when my code detects Pebble's app -- because Pebble says that their software can handle notifications enhanced for Android Wear.

And those Android Wear enhancements are "riding on" standard status bar notifications, that's how Wear works.

If you're seeing duplicates on the Pebble, it must mean that:

- Pebble's software is mirroring the status bar notification, the "basic" part

- And then it's mirroring the Android Wear enhancement.

Pebble's software. Not AquaMail.

Please talk to Pebble support.

We have this thing here in Russia called "Google":

https://www.google.ru/search?q=pebble+watch+duplicate+notifications

Just a few results:

https://www.reddit.com/r/pebble/comments/2xcuxn/help_double_notifications_on_pebble/

https://www.reddit.com/r/pebble/comments/1vtfck/anyone_getting_double_notifications_recently/

https://www.reddit.com/r/pebble/comments/35rbu9/android_double_notifications_on_texts/

https://www.reddit.com/r/pebble/comments/20v1gg/how_can_i_stop_getting_multiple_notifications_for/

Not all of these apply directly, but I was able to learn that:

- Pebble has some sort of "Notification Center" app

AND

- Just as I'd imagined, this "Notification Center" has a setting to mirror "regular" status bar notifications to the watch, thus causing duplicates for Android Wear enhanced apps

I would consider it a bug in Pebble's Android Wear implementation:

If their app sees Android Wear notifications coming from a particular app, and pushes these to the watch -- why *also* copy the "plain" (base) notification to the watch as well?

Hope it's possible to turn this Pebble Notification Center setting off, hopefully it's per-app and can be turned off just for AquaMail.

I don't get double notifications on my Pebble (Time). Works flawlessly. Using no special notification apps.
